Offline play still works
Tomodachi Life on Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo says features and game modes that do not require online communication remain playable. The shutdown is therefore not the same as the 3DS game becoming unusable; local, offline island play remains the relevant boundary.

StreetPass and SpotPass differ
Tomodachi Life on Nintendo 3DS
StreetPass uses local communication between Nintendo 3DS systems and remains available after the shutdown. SpotPass uses online communication, so SpotPass features are no longer available under Nintendo's service-status policy.

QR and software downloads
Tomodachi Life on Nintendo 3DS
QR Code patterns are part of the original 3DS Mii workflow, not Living the Dream's local-wireless system. Nintendo also says update data and previously purchased software or downloadable content can be redownloaded for the foreseeable future, though that status can change.
